Equally Strong

Ideally we’d like our body to be equally strong and that’s exactly what our yoga practice can give us.  One student, who was a marathon runner, was very surprised to find he lacked the arm strength to do a basic sun salutation.  This is one reason why I recommend the Sun Salutation to everyone as a Minimum Daily Requirement.  To avoid stress or injury while building arm strength, it is better to do a modified version of plank and crocodile on our knees with perfect form until we are strong enough to do the full version on our toes.  In the beginning, if you cannot hold crocodile pose just lower slowly through it.  If your muscles are trembling they are building strength, that’s a good thing, as long as you are not gritting your teeth or holding your breath.
I do the sun salutation first thing every morning in my pajamas in my closet, otherwise I think of too many excuses and it doesn’t happen. There are many versions of the sun salutation, here is one example to use as a guide.
