Open Your Heart

“Do you want to know my secret shame?” I can’t see the look on your face, but I could tell from the face of the person sitting next to me on the plane that the answer to that question was a definite NO!

“It’s OK,” I said, “it’s just that I’m from Montana and I don’t know how to ride a horse.” Whew! What a look of relief!

That was several years ago, before I read Brene Brown’s books. Now I know shame is not a joke and secrets need to be shared with a trusted someone who has earned the right to hear the real story of you – not with strangers on a plane or on-line.

Dr Dean Ornish also talked about sharing feelings in his book Love and Survival. Heart health includes exercise, diet and love! We all need to open our heart to someone, someone who listens to us without judging us or trying ‘fix’ things for us.

And then we can do it for them.
