Steady and Comfortable

Square

Cats know how to be steady and comfortable. Yogis know that a good yoga pose is steady and comfortable, as described in the Yoga Sutras. How do we know if we are steady and comfortable? We are breathing through our nose. We learn to focus on our breath as we move our way through the yoga postures. If our breath is rapid and shallow, it is a sign that we are forcing things and need to ease up a little bit. This lesson is especially valuable when we apply it to other parts of our life. Are we steady and comfortably breathing through our nose as we go about our day or as we engage in other types of exercise (jogging, walking, hiking, bike riding, swimming, lifting weights…)? Ayurveda teaches us that forcing things is never a good idea because it is not sustainable. Our breath is our reminder.
